Wave Regime and Wave‐Current Coupling in an Upwelling–Driven Bay: Seasonal and Inter‐Annual Variability

چکیده

Data from an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP), a wave-gauge, met-ocean buoy and model results provide new insights into the wave regime in partially sheltered upwelling-driven bay, Ría de Vigo (NW Iberia), adjacent continental shelf June 2013 to August 2014. Swell on NW-Iberian comes mainly NW directions, while wind sea under upwelling conditions, SW downwelling conditions. As ria is protected exposed SW, swell almost always attenuated when entering height inside depends mostly variability. During season, barely enter heights are small (0.21 m). directly enters ria, contributing more total which achieves its maximum values (0.46 There cumulative action of currents (wave coupling, WCC) that stronger during season. The WCC entails increase seabed energy could reinforce bottom remineralization. inter-annual variability (2009–2016) winter associated with combined role played by North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) West Europe Pressure Anomaly (WEPA) indices. highest waves strongest occur coincidence negative NAO positive WEPA phases can have potentially relevant repercussions ecosystem services ria.

The Seasonal and Interannual Variability

The Labrador Sea, as one of a few places of deep water formation, plays an important role in the Meridional Overturning Circulation. While the interior of the Labrador Sea, where the deepest convection takes place, is known to experience variability on time scales ranging from days to decades, little is known about the variability of the other components of the Labrador Sea circulation the boun...

Seasonal and interannual variability in temperature, chlorophyll and macronutrients in northern Marguerite Bay, Antarctica

Biological Time-Series (RaTS) project. When weather and ice permit, the RaTS station is occupied every 5 days in summer and weekly in winter. Observations comprise a conductivity–temperature–depth (CTD) cast to 500m and a water sample from 15m, this being the depth of the chlorophyll maximum in most years. The water samples provide data on total chlorophyll (size-fractionated at 20, 5, 2 and 0....

Interannual and Seasonal Variability of Macroinvertebrates in Monsoonal Climate Streams

The aim of this study was to assess the interannual and seasonal changes in the community composition, abundance and presence-absence of macroinvertebrates in the streams of the northwestern of Argentina. The importance of environmental variability in determining these changes was also analyzed. Macroinvertebrates were collected in eleven streams during high (March) and low (September) water pe...

Seasonal and Interannual Variability in Atmospheric Turbidity over South Africa

Aerosols affect climate by attenuating solar radiation and acting as cloud condensation nuclei. Despite their importance in the climate system, our understanding of the time-space variability of aerosols is fragmentary. Measurements and reliable estimates of atmospheric turbidity—the total column amount of aerosol—are scarce in most countries and this is especially true in the Southern Hemisphe...

Analysis of seasonal and interannual variability in transpacific transport

[1] The purpose of our analysis is both to evaluate the meteorological component of the seasonal and interannual variability of transpacific transport and to identify meteorological features that can be used to estimate transpacific transport. To accomplish this goal, we simulate the transport of nine continental tracers with uniform emissions and two-week lifetimes using the global Model of Oz...
